Overview

CUFITTER is Cancer United’s exercise initiative, based in Angmering West Sussex, launched in 2014. Since October 2015, it has been offering cancer-specific exercise from the CUFITTER gym, the UK’s first dedicated exercise space for cancer patients. We work with cancer patients from diagnosis onwards, and those who have been directly affected by cancer at some point in their life.

We believe in the transformative power of exercise and its ability to enhance the physical and emotional well-being of individuals on their cancer journey.

 

We are now seeking a Personal Trainer/Gym Instructor to join our team.

 

Position

This role Reports to the Lead Instructor

As a CUFITTER Personal Trainer/Gym Instructor, you will play a crucial role in providing CUFITTER’s specialised exercise classes and support to individuals affected by cancer. You will work closely with our CUFITTER members helping them build confidence, strength, flexibility, and enhance their overall quality of life.

 

To ensure we have a complete understanding of their unique situation, all members will have undergone an assessment of their physical abilities, medical history, and treatment side effects.

Based on this assessment, they will be signposted to classes that are safe, effective, and specifically tailored to meet their individual needs and goals. We aim to create a personalised exercise experience for everyone.

 

Responsibilities

 

Supportive Monitoring

·       Familiarise yourself with the member consultation documentation and apply any measures/adjustments that may be required during the class ensuring any medical needs are taken into account and catered for where necessary.

·       Monitor member progress in a supportive and encouraging environment where they feel safe and at ease, document where necessary and highlight any adjustments you feel are needed to the lead instructor.

 

Instruction and Guidance

·       Take group exercise sessions, providing clear instructions and demonstrations while taking care to ensure that all members are exercising correctly and safely.

·       Monitor individual performance and make any necessary adjustments to suit individual fitness level.

·       Offer guidance and support during workouts, ensuring proper technique and safety precautions are followed.

·       Educate members on the benefits of exercise in managing cancer-related symptoms and improving overall well-being.

·       Promote and help maintain an environment which is encouraging and in which members feel safe, included and at ease.

 

Motivation

·       Encourage and motivate members to remain committed to their exercise routines particularly during challenging times.

·       Build an environment where members are motivated to take control of their health and fitness.

·       Celebrate member improvements in fitness levels, achievements, and milestones along their journey towards improving their physical and mental wellbeing.

 

 

Commitment and Communication

·       Communicate with the Lead Instructor on member progression, highlighting any improvements/issues.

·       Liaise with the Office Team to ensure the smooth running of the timetable.

 

Skill Requirements

·       Strong knowledge of exercise physiology, anatomy, and biomechanics

  • Ability to adapt to following the CUFITTER exercise sessions which have been based on clients' individual needs, limitations, and treatment protocols.

·       Previous experience working with individuals affected by cancer or other chronic health conditions is desirable

·       Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

·       Be able to work as part of a small team with commitment

·       Be compassionate, with a genuine desire to make a positive impact in the lives of cancer patients.

·       Must have a good sense of humour and the ability to know when to use that within a class situation.

  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to professional ethics and standards.

 

Qualifications:

  • Personal Trainer or Fitness Instructor from a recognised organisation.

  • Exercise referral from a recognised organisation.

  • Additional certification or training in Cancer Exercise or Oncology exercise, would be an advantage.

 

 

 

Working Hours

Flexible but between the hours of 9am and 5pm

Dependant on Experience
